Last Friday I worked and Grammy had Caleb all day because Auntie Jen & Uncle Rad were in California. Caleb goes over to my mom's house in his pajamas and I send clothes for him to wear, and it wasn't until my mom texted me a picture of Caleb in the shirt I sent that I realized Caleb and I were dressed alike, so I was hoping Caleb wouldn't mess up his shirt so we could take a picture when I got home from work.
Here are a couple of other pictures from Grammy's day on Friday. I don't think they did anything terribly exciting, but they did make a trip to Market Basket, and the report was that Caleb was terrific! Of course he was, that's how he always is!
I love the hand on the face!
Sabbath morning Caleb slept a little later than he has been lately, which was nice. I think he got up around 6:30. The downside to him waking up later is that he usually doesn't go back to sleep for as long. I think he only went back to sleep from about 7:30 to 8:15. Sometimes he sleeps until 9:00, but usually it's around 8:30. After he woke up, we tried out a backpack that we had gotten because we knew we were going to go on a long walk with the church in the afternoon and the baby Bjorn wouldn't cut it. I had gotten the backpack for $25 off of a mom's group on Facebook, and it is supposed to be $100, so I was pretty happy. Steve put Caleb in the backpack in the house, just to try it out and it seemed like it would work well.
Caleb had a short nap during church in the mother's room and then we had potluck and then I fed Caleb right after we ate, so we could leave on our walk with the church. So, it was a little different schedule than normal, but we made it work. Here are a couple of pictures from while we were at church.
The walk we were going on was in Wellfleet, which is about an hour away. I was hoping Caleb would take a nap in the car because I knew we would be walking for awhile and it wouldn't be good if he was tired while we were walking. It took him awhile to fall asleep, but he did manage to get about 30 minutes of sleep before we got there, so that was good.
It was a beautiful day and we had about 30 people go on the walk. We didn't realize it, but it turns out the walk was almost completely on the sand, so it was kind of difficult. We walked for awhile, but ended up turning around before the rest of the group because we needed to get back and Caleb was getting hungry and tired. It's a good thing we turned around when we did, because as it was, Caleb was tired of the backpack (although he did really well for quite awhile) and Steve had to carry him for the last little bit. It would have been a little more disastrous if we had continued with the rest of the group. All in all, the backpack was very successful and I think Caleb really enjoyed himself! Here are a few pictures from the walk!
Tired and hungry - the thumb held him over until I could feed him at the car!
We ended up getting back home around 7:00, so it wasn't too much different from our normal schedule, which was good.
Sunday was Father's Day, of course, and Steve actually got up early to drive about an hour away to pick up a swingset he had bought on Craigslist. Originally Steve though he would just build something out of wood to hang a swing on and then later he would add to it. However, the materials just for that were about $100 and Steve bought the swingset for $150, so it was a good deal.
He got home around 11:00 and then we left shortly after that to go out to lunch with my dad for Father's Day. Before we left, Caleb gave Daddy his Father's Day card, but not before he got his mouth on it!
I also made Steve some brownies for Father's Day. They didn't quite match up to the chocolate-covered strawberries that he made for me, but I can't help it if my favorite is a lot more complicated than his favorite!!
Here are a couple of pictures of Caleb and Grampy at Olive Garden. For my dad's gift, I gave him a copy of the photo book I made of Caleb as well as an 8 x 10 photo collage of my dad and Caleb that he could put in his office. Since Caleb is his pride and joy, he loved the gifts!
On Monday, my mom and I had decided to drive up to Scituate to see our friend Dorene who used to take care of my grandmother, Mimi. Dorene hadn't met Caleb yet and she really wanted to, so we had promised her we would visit her sometime. Caleb originally woke up around 6:00 and then surprisingly, went back to sleep until 9:30. So, we ended up leaving for Scituate later than we thought, but had no agenda, so it was fine. Caleb ended up taking a short nap on the way there, which was good, because I didn't want to have to have him take a nap while we were visiting Dorene. The house she is living in is right on the beach, and it was a gorgeous day, so we spent our entire visit (a little over an hour maybe) out on the porch, overlooking the ocean. It was beautiful! Dorene loved Caleb and had a great time visiting!
Love this picture so much! It might be my favorite picture of the 2 of them together!
I was hoping Caleb would make it home without falling asleep so that he would take a longer nap in his crib, but he was tired because his first nap was so short, so he did fall asleep about halfway home and took another 30 minute nap. So, not a great nap day, but oh well. He was very well behaved, so that's all I can ask for!
When Steve got home from work, we tried out the swingset for the first time. Since Caleb loved the swings at the playground, we were very excited to be able to do it in our own backyard. Caleb did love the swings at home too, so I am happy we bought the swingset.
He didn't actually go down the slide - it was just for the picture!
Tuesday was a pretty good day. We started to get ready for camp meeting. We went out and got some groceries in the morning. Caleb took a pretty good nap around noon and we took a couple of nice walks - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. He also took a shorter nap in the late afternoon, which is pretty typical. I don't think there was anything terribly exciting about Tuesday. Caleb is definitely sitting up a lot more now. He's not to the point where I can leave him, but I can sit next to him or in front of him without worrying too much about him tipping over. After a few minutes, he gets a little wobbly, but he is doing really well!
Wednesday morning Caleb woke up at 3:45 because he had gotten an arm out of his swaddle. I re-swaddled him and he eventually went back to sleep around 4:20, but I wake up at 4:45 on work mornings, so needless to say, I did not go back to sleep. Caleb had a good day with Grammy. They made a little missionary visit to a nursing home to see a church member and Caleb was very well behaved, as usual.
The report was that there had been a major blow-out!
Caleb was pretty sleepy when we picked him up, but it was too late in the day for a nap, so we kept him entertained and happy for about an hour by going for a walk and reading a story and then I fed him early and put him to bed around 8:00. I don't know what happened, but he woke up at 3:45 this morning again! I refused to actually get him up, so I put the pacifier in and it took him forever to go back to sleep! He finally fell asleep around 4:45 and I thought he would sleep for awhile, but he was up shortly after 5:30. He must have been hungry. So, I got up and fed him and then was hoping he would go back to sleep for awhile, since he was up so early! It is 9:15 right now and he is still asleep - thank goodness!! I think I will be going to bed early tonight in case I get a 3:45 wake-up call for the third morning in a row!
Next week we will be at Northern New England camp meeting in Maine. I am very excited to see Steve's family and a lot of my family as well. I don't know how Caleb is going to do sleeping in the pop-up camper, but hopefully he will do ok. I am mentally preparing for him to not do too great, and hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised! I am mostly concerned about napping during the day, because of the noise and the heat. We might be taking car rides just to get him to nap. At least I will be on vacation from work and won't have to worry about getting work done while he is napping. That should make it a lot less stressful for me! So, I don't think I will be posting a blog entry next Thursday. I will post when I get back and write about camp meeting. Until then!
