Thursday night was hot, so we just put Caleb to bed in a onesie and his sleep sack. Here are a couple of pictures of him when I got him up in the morning as well as a picture of Caleb with Grampy when we dropped him off in the morning.
Even though it is always pictures of Caleb with Grampy, he does spend most of his time with Grammy and of course, it is Grammy behind the camera when taking pictures of Caleb and Grampy. Grammy doesn't like getting her picture taken because she thinks she's not photogenic.
Here are a few other pictures from Caleb's day with Grammy on Friday.
Sleeping at the mall - trying to stay cool!
Caleb wore shorts for the first time on Friday - here is a picture of his chunky legs when we picked him up from Auntie Jen's house!
Sabbath morning we made it in time for church and Caleb had just eaten, so he wasn't hungry and we were able to sit in church for awhile. I decided it was time for a picture with Grammy, so here it is! There's also a picture of Caleb and Steve while we were in the mother's room.
Partway through church it was time for Caleb's nap, so I just brought him into the mother's room and rocked him to sleep. It went ok and he only slept about 30 minutes, but at least he slept! We had potluck and then we brought Caleb home to take a nap before we went on a walk in the afternoon with the church. We have been trying to get Caleb to nap without the swaddle, and it took about 30 minutes for him to fall asleep and then he only slept about 35 minutes, which wasn't great. I fed him and then we left for our walk and I was hoping he would take another short nap in the car, which he did.
We went on a really nice walk to the Knob in Woods Hole. It was a beautiful day and we had a really nice time. Here are some pictures, including Caleb's first dip of his toes in the ocean! I'm not sure if it was the noisy waves or the cold ocean, but he was not impressed and cried when Steve put his feet in! Oh well. I guess he will get used to it!
By the time we got back from our walk, it was a little after 7:00 and time for Caleb to eat and go to bed. Sunday morning, I worked, but I cut my working short so we could go to a couple of yard sales that I had seen advertised on Facebook as having kids' clothes. All 3 of us went and it was successful, because I got a fair amount of clothes and 3 sleep sacks, which we desperately needed. One of our best purchases was a Patriots hat for Caleb, which we put on right away. I love these pictures of him!!
I continued working while Caleb took a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, so that was good because Steve was able to be "off duty" during that time and get other things done. We didn't do too much else the rest of the day, except take a walk with the dogs.
Monday was not a great day for sleeping for Caleb. He has been sleeping a lot shorter at night now that he is out of his swaddle. He is consistently waking up around 5:00, give or take a half hour or so. And then when I put him back down after feeding him, he is sleeping less time then as well. So, Caleb got up for the second time around 8:15 and so I thought he would take a great nap! Plus, it was a rainy day, which made his room darker, so I thought that would help too. Anyway, we have been having him take his naps in his room in his crib (which is new) as well as trying to do it without the swaddle, so I don't know if it was the combination of new things, but he would not go to sleep at nap time! He plays with his feet (even though he is in a sleep sack) and rolls from side to side and waves his arms all around. The cutest thing, which is not funny at the time, is when I put his pacifier in and he takes it out and waves it all around in the air like he is conducting an orchestra! Anyway, it took him 45 minutes to fall asleep and then he only slept for 35 minutes, which was horrible! I was trying to get him to go back to sleep and then the dogs went crazy barking at each other and then Caleb started screaming and wouldn't go back to sleep. So, it was only about 1:00 at this time, so I gave up and decided to try again later, thinking Caleb would take a good nap later. Well, that didn't happen either. I think I put him down again around 2:30 and it again took him forever to fall asleep and he only slept about 45 minutes. So, I was very frustrated and decided that Caleb is not ready to be unswaddled at naptime! I will keep doing it at night, but I can't go through that routine at naptime every day!
Another problem Caleb is having is not wanting to eat food! He did ok with the rice cereal the first couple of times and then has not been interested since. We tried carrots this week as well, and he didn't like that either. I thought maybe he didn't like the spoon, so I tried on my finger, and he didn't want it! I guess it is just the texture and he needs to get used to it, but I wish he was doing better with it! We will just keep trying. Here are a couple of pictures from our attempts!
Well, Tuesday ended up being a much better sleeping day! Caleb slept from 8:20 to 6:45, which I can't even remember the last time he slept past 6:00 (sad, because that used to be every day)! Then I put him back to bed around 7:45 downstairs in his crib with the swaddle, and he slept until 11:00! I think he was just making up for lost time, because he has never slept that late! He also took a pretty decent nap Tuesday afternoon, while swaddled (and it only took him about 5 minutes to fall asleep), so I am much happier with my new plan of swaddling him during the day, but leaving him unswaddled at night.
Tuesday I noticed that Caleb is starting to make new sounds. He says mama and dada now, obviously not on purpose, but he wasn't even making those sounds before, so it is cute to hear him say it!
Tuesday after Steve got him we took Caleb to the playground again for a few minutes, and he loved the swing again! We did buy a swing for our backyard, so I hope Steve will get it put up soon, so we can enjoy the swing every day without having to go to the playground. Here are a few pictures!
Yesterday I worked and Caleb was with Grammy all day! Grampy was home quite a bit too, so that was nice! Here are several cute pictures from Grammy's phone! I love getting her texts throughout the day!
Well, that brings us to today. Caleb got up at 5:00, but I didn't feed him until 5:30. I put him back down upstairs while I took a shower, but it was a little bright in his room so he didn't fall asleep right away. I ended up bringing him downstairs and putting him in his crib, and he fell asleep around 7:15 and didn't get up until 9:30, which was great! At least he likes his crib! We are going to do some errands in a little while after I feed Caleb, so I am going to go now! Here are a few more random pictures!
Mercy, your back must be starting to hurt wearing a Baby Bjorn with a nearly 20 pound kid in it. I don't think I ever had Brady in it when he was that heavy (of course, that was like at 15 months for him!).
ReplyDeleteAlso, if he really doesn't seem to want to eat solids, there isn't anything wrong with waiting for a few weeks or even a month or two and try again. I have several friends who didn't start their kids on solids until 8 months. He's obviously getting food elsewhere!
Enjoyed the blog Kelly, love his chubby legs! Camille
ReplyDeleteLove the pics from swings - he is so happy! I'm still a week behind...so maybe you have tried it...but Wes now LOVES his cereal & veges as long as we mix them together!
