Chapin Beach, First Dentist Visit & Vacation Bible School

Last Friday Dede and Rissa came to babysit Caleb for the day. They love to babysit him and since Dede is off for the summer she wanted to be able to babysit him and give my mom a break. Since Caleb is talking so much more now, he immediately started saying Dede, which of course she loved! She took some cute pictures of Caleb and Rissa.

On Sabbath we were at Sabbath School and church for the first time in a month since we had been to Vermont and Camp Meeting. We were happy to be back. We were also happy to find out that some of the new songs this quarter in Sabbath School are the same as the ones we sang at Camp Meeting (Woolly Lamb and Animals, Animals). Caleb is so cute when we sing Animals, Animals. The last line of the song is "Here is an animal that I know." Caleb then says "I know" in the cutest little voice and I just love it! I meant to write about this last week and also we sing "I'm in the Lord's Army" and he likes to say "Yes sir!"

During church, something really cute happened. Actually, 2 things. One thing was during the children's story there was a picture of Jesus and the children up on the screen and right in the middle of the children's story Caleb looked up and pointed and said "Jesus!" Honestly, I didn't even know he could recognize Jesus, let alone say his name! But, of course it warmed my heart. Also, Caleb likes to say "amen" after praying, so after the main prayer for the service, Caleb said "Amen" very loudly several times so everyone could hear it. It elicited a lot of smiles.

We were having a large group over to my parents' house for lunch on Sabbath, so I took Caleb there for his nap instead of home. He has been sleeping in the basement at my parents' house lately and it is working well because it is cooler and darker down there. We had a lovely lunch and a nice visit with everyone. Caleb slept well, so that was nice. Another cute thing is Caleb has all of a sudden started saying Yully's name. It started by me just asking him to point to Yully (to see if he knew who she was) and he pointed at her and said her name quite well. Now he says it every time he sees her and it is so cute and she loves it!

Late Sabbath afternoon we went to our favorite beach in Dennis, Chapin Beach, for a walk with the church. We ended up not spending too much time with the rest of the church, however, because most everyone took off on a long walk down the beach and Caleb was more interested in playing in the water. Jen also didn't feel like walking, so we spent some time with Rad and Jen and then we all walked back together.

After he got out of the water, he was freezing and we were aways from the car, so we put him in a sweatshirt with my sweatshirt over his legs to keep him a little warmer

Eating a graham cracker on the walk back - I love these few pictures!

When we took him out of the car at home, he took off down the driveway instead of heading inside

On Sunday, I worked for awhile in the morning and then we went over to Jeff and Dania's to have a swim with Aunt Sherrie and Uncle Kevin. Jen also went in the water. My parents were there but didn't swim. Caleb the fish had a fun time in the water. Steve watched him and I was able to float on one of Jeff and Dania's floats, which was nice.

Then we brought Caleb home for a nap. He slept for over 2 hours and I worked some more while he slept. Then we went to the grocery store and then met all the Walls and my parents for Thai food, which was delicious as always. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, I think!

On Monday we had Caleb's first dentist appointment. Now some may think it is too early for a dentist visit, but the recommendations have changed from the first visit by age 3 to the first visit by age 1. So, we are actually behind the times! I guess the recommendations have changed due to the fact that so many kids have a lot of sugar and juice in their diet. Not an issue with us, but I still wanted to make sure everything looked ok. And Caleb does already have 14 teeth, so I thought it would be good to check them out! Caleb has really started to like brushing his teeth at home. He even says "toothbrush". So, we had to wait awhile and they brought us in and checked his weight and height and blood pressure and then sent us back to the waiting room until someone was available to clean his teeth. While we were waiting, Caleb tripped over a chair and hit his head on a table. He immediately started crying, so I picked him up and put his head on my shoulder. When he lifted up his head when he was done crying, I noticed he had bit his lip and it was bleeding quite a bit, and that my shoulder was now covered in blood! So, we got something to clean it up and I wiped my shirt off a little, although it still looked pretty bad. I was worried that the lip was going to cause a problem when he was getting his teeth cleaned, but he did awesome! They told me at the beginning that he would probably cry a little and I thought he might, but he didn't even fuss. He was so good and the person cleaning the teeth said she was going to take him home with her! Then Seth checked him out and said he looked perfect. Of course they want us to get rid of the pacifier, but I am not too worried about it, so we'll keep it for now!

After the dentist, we went to AC Moore quickly and then headed home for lunch and naptime. After his nap, Caleb played in the pool and sandbox.

Monday was the first day of Vacation Bible School at our church and my mom was in charge of all the meals, so I offered to go up and help her before Caleb had to go to bed. So, I went up there from 5:00-7:00. Steve actually brought Caleb up as well so he could hear all the singing and then he just fed him supper there.

On Tuesday it was drizzling a little so we decided to skip our swimming lessons and go to Babies R Us instead for a few items. I also went to Kohls to look for some shoes for me, but didn't find anything. In the afternoon we didn't do too much. I think we took a walk and I also gave Caleb an early bath because we went back to VBS and I knew we wouldn't get home in time for a bath. I helped my mom again in the kitchen and Steve and Caleb listened to the singing. We had over 50 kids the first night of VBS, which is really great!

Playing with some new bath toys

Yesterday Caleb was with Grammy all day. The only picture she sent me was of him sitting on the step between their family room and dining room. She said he loved it!

Caleb has also started to like to sit in his little Mickey chair in his room which we got him for Christmas. On Tuesday morning after I gave him his milk in the morning and he didn't quite finish it, he then sat in his chair and finished his milk. The same thing happened in the afternoon after he didn't quite finish his milk after his nap. He also likes to sit there and read books.

In closing, here are a few more pictures, including a couple adorable ones of Steve and Caleb both using their tape measures. Priceless!

  1. Actually, I don’t think that having an appointment with the dentist as early as 3 year old is a bad idea. Having your teeth’s health monitored as early as possible is a great practice. And it seems like he had a great time at the dentist, which is pretty nice. That being said, I really like how you guys do all this stuff together, it’s a really great family practice. Thanks for sharing this lovely post with us, Kelly!

  2. It seems like Caleb has been a very busy baby during back then; but I think he had a lot fun, despite the hectic schedule. Haha! Anyway, it’s great that you've brought him to the dentist for a checkup at a young age. It serves to lessen the stigma of dentists being scary, and you get an update as to how his teeth are coming along. How are things doing with his teeth now, by the way? No cavities, I hope. Thanks for sharing this with us, Kelly. All the best!

  3. Caleb looks very adorable! I’m sure everybody loved seeing him. Anyway, I think it’s a great idea to have his dental visit as early as now, to avoid future complications with his dental hygiene. Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a great day!
