Unfortunately, this is not our Mickey umbrella, but Caleb really liked it
Love this picture!
Caleb was singing Jesus Loves Me into this cone and it was actually pretty loud! I guess we were witnessing to the people in the airport.
So, of course Caleb didn't take a nap all day because that's just how he is when we aren't at home and there is no good place to nap. So, by the time we landed in Florida and got to our timeshare and got everything set up, Caleb didn't go to bed until 9:00 and he was exhausted after being awake all day. Luckily he slept in quite late the next morning, but that's when our eventful day started. Steve and I were out on the couch in the living room and we heard a big boom coming from Caleb's room. He was sleeping in a pack and play that was pushed up against the wall. We knew the boom had to from him hitting the wall, so I checked the monitor and he wasn't crying. He opened his eyes and just moved from one end of the crib to the other and went back to sleep. So, we figured that it must have sounded worse than it actually was. Well, when he got up for good about 45 minutes later, he threw up immediately and I know that a head injury and vomiting are not a good combination. He was also extremely lethargic, which is not like him. The only other time I have seen him that lethargic is when he had an ear infection a year ago and his fever was 104-105. So, we gave him a little milk and he threw that up. Same with a couple sips of water and a few goldfish. So, after calling nurse Alison, we decided that we needed to take him to the ER to make sure nothing was wrong with his head. We got to the ER around 11:00 and it wasn't super busy, but of course everything is a process. While we were waiting, Caleb was exhausted and took a short nap on Steve, which is also unusual.
Then we went in and saw the doctor. She agreed that we were right to bring him in and she gave him a Zofran for his nausea (ironic, since that is what I am taking for my nausea) and then ordered a cat scan for his head.
Long story short, everything came back fine with the cat scan and actually by the time we got the results he had finally perked up and had kept down quite a few goldfish. All in all, we were there about 3 hours. I am glad we went because it gave us peace of mind that everything was ok, but I guess it was just a crazy coincidence that he was vomiting and had bumped his head. What is also crazy is that after that afternoon, he was 100% fine and never showed any other symptoms of anything again.
That afternoon, he even went in the pool with Daddy because he was feeling so much better.
It wasn't a super warm day and the pool wasn't super warm either, so they spent quite a bit of time in the hot tub
The rest of the day we took it easy and then we put Caleb to bed very early because the only nap he had all day was the cat nap in the waiting room.
Wednesday morning Caleb woke up feeling fine, which was good since we were headed to the Magic Kingdom that day. My parents came with us, so that was fun. We had a very fun day and the lines weren't bad at all, so we fit a lot into our day.
We went right away to see Mickey because the lines weren't too bad
Caleb likes the teacups - not me!!
Caleb was tall enough to go on Goofy's Barnstormer!
Turns out it was a little too much for Caleb and we probably shouldn't have let him go on it
Caleb really enjoys seeing all the characters and is not afraid of them at all like some kids are at this age
On the People Mover, one of my favorite things!
Buzz Lightyear
Finally crashed during the parade
Waiting to go into Mickey's Philharmagic. Towards the end, it was a little much for Caleb and he said "Turn the movie off!"
We wanted to buy Caleb one of the Mickey balloons until we found out it cost $12!! I felt bad but we didn't buy it. Instead we just took a picture of the balloons.
Still smiling at the end of a long day
We had a tough moment around suppertime at the Magic Kingdom. Caleb hadn't pooped on Monday or Tuesday, so it was suppertime on Wednesday and we saw him making the face like he was pooping. I was very happy, but he seemed to be having a hard time getting it out. Well, after a couple of minutes, he started crying and it was very sad. So Steve scooped him up with the diaper changing items and took him to the bathroom to take care of the situation. They were gone quite awhile and when they got back there had been success but Steve had quite a story to tell. I guess he got peed on and Caleb had pooped in a couple of different places, etc. But at least there was success!
We ended up leaving around 7:00 or so, because my parents had to go to the airport to pick up Rad and Jen and Levi. So, we didn't get to stay for the fireworks but that was ok because it was good to get Caleb to bed so he didn't get too far behind on his sleep again.
On Thursday Steve had to drive to Tampa for the day for work, so we stayed behind. Rad and Jen had gotten in the night before, so we waited for them to get up and around and then we headed over to see Nana and Grandpa, because they didn't know Rad and Jen were coming. They were really surprised when they saw them, which was really cool. We spent some time in their room because they have a very nice balcony that gets some nice sun.
On our way back to our room, we stopped by the playground for a few minutes because Caleb had been talking about going there for a couple of days. He really liked playing with the chess pieces.
I put Caleb down for a nap and everyone else went out to lunch for falafels, which I don't really care for, so it worked out well that I stayed home. Caleb ended up taking a 2 1/2 hour nap, which was great (until bedtime that night). Then Corey and her kids came over and we went swimming. It wasn't real warm, but it was ok and the kids had fun.
Calleigh and Aubree hadn't met Levi before
So, that night I put Caleb to bed at 8:00 and it took him until after 9:00 to go to sleep. I went in there around 9:00 and smelled poop, so that could have been part of the problem. I changed him and he went to sleep shortly after that.
On Friday we headed over to the Disney Boardwalk area because it is a great place to walk around. My mom's back was bothering her, so she didn't walk too much. There is a boat that goes from place to place, so she took the boat and met us along the way as we walked. We stayed for a couple of hours and got a slice of pizza for lunch before heading back to our place.
The plan was to give Caleb a nap in the afternoon but of course the stinker wouldn't fall asleep. We are kind of in a weird place right now where he naps sometimes but other times doesn't. I am not giving up on the naps yet, but I have resigned myself to the fact that he is not going to go to nap every day either. The problem is that when he doesn't nap, he is so tired at night, so he has to go to bed super early. So, that's what happened on Friday.
We went to the pool in the afternoon for awhile and Caleb had a good time. Steve and Caleb were mostly in the hot tub because the regular pool was too cold.
Then I helped my mom make supper because we were having a friend from elementary school over for supper. Ryan Casson graduated from 8th grade with Rad and we pretty much hadn't seen him since. We had a really nice supper and a great time visiting with Ryan. He is a really nice guy and is also a lawyer like Rad. It was great to catch up with him.
Caleb likes playing with some of the games on the tablet, but he only lasts about 1 minute before he wants to go on to the next one, so it is not very helpful to self-entertain
On Sabbath, we went to the Apopka church because that's where our former pastor, Steve Jencks, and his family are. Steve wasn't preaching, but he was there, so we wanted to see them. We went to Sabbath School so Caleb could go. He had a really fun time. It was a very nice Sabbath School. Our Sabbath School at home is Cradle Roll and Kindergarten, so it was nice to be in a strictly Cradle Roll class that was geared toward the little ones.
A nice reunion with friends at church
After church we went to Corey and Duncan's house for a nice haystacks lunch. Caleb had a lot of fun playing in the sandbox in their backyard. He wasn't too interested in ours last summer, but hopefully this will mean he will love ours this summer.
We had plans with some of my dad's relatives Saturday night, so I knew Caleb needed to take a nap but also knew it wouldn't happen at Corey's house. So, I pushed him around the block in the stroller until he fell asleep. He slept for about 30 minutes which wasn't much but it would at least tide him over until bedtime and then he wouldn't have to go to bed super early.
So, my dad has an aunt and two cousins that live in the area so we had arranged to have them all come over on Saturday night and we ordered a bunch of pizzas and had salad. There was a room we could use in the timeshare, so that was nice. We had a nice time visiting and it was really good pizza!
So, after we all got back, we spent some time trying to figure out what we were going to do about our flight home. Steve was going home on Sunday already, so he was fine. My parents and Caleb and I were supposed to go back Monday at 1:00, and we were supposed to get another snowstorm at home, so I didn't think we would get home. Southwest was allowing you to change your flight at no extra charge to accommodate the weather, so we were trying to figure out what to do. We looked at lots of options and ended up rebooking my dad for late Monday night (which was the same flight that Rad was on) and my mom and Caleb and I changed our flight to Tuesday morning. We all would have preferred to go home on Monday but knew it wasn't practical and we didn't want to sit in the airport all day.
On Sunday morning we went out to breakfast at Cracker Barrel with Nana and Grandpa before my mom took Steve to the airport.
I tried to give Caleb a nap on Sunday and of course, it didn't work again. That was actually ok, though, because it was the Superbowl that night and we were sleeping at Corey's and it would be good to have him go to bed early so I could watch the game without having him around.
Before going to Corey's for the game, we stopped at the Jencks' house, which is only about 10 minutes from Corey's. They have a beautiful house and we had a nice visit with them.
Then we went to Corey's and had a nice supper of subs. It was a lot of fun to watch the game with so many other people. Besides Corey's family and our family, Aunt Toni, Uncle Terry, Megan, Bruce, Ron & Elaine, and some of Corey's friends were there. It was a fun group and everyone was Patriots fans, so that was good.
The sandbox, which was Caleb's favorite spot
Go Patriots!!
The game started around 6:30 and Caleb was in bed about 6:45. He went right to sleep. We were sleeping in Brady's room so Caleb could sleep in Brady's crib. I was checking the monitor to make sure Caleb was really asleep and about 15 minutes after he went to sleep I noticed on the monitor that the light was on in his room. I jumped up and ran upstairs and the kids had gone into the room for something (even though they knew Caleb was in there and Calleigh said she told them not to go in) and then came out without turning off the light. I thought for sure he would wake up, but he stayed dead asleep, which I was thankful for. Poor thing was exhausted from no nap!
Anyway, the game was unbelievable. A close game all the way through and then the Patriots squeaked it out in the final seconds with an unbelievable interception by Malcolm Butler. We were screaming so loud and jumping around. It was an absolute madhouse! But it was so exciting to all be together for that exciting moment! We stayed up until after midnight watching the postgame interviews and everything. It was fun. But needless to say, I didn't get too much sleep since Caleb was up at 6:15 after going to sleep at 6:45.
We had a relaxing morning at the Grodacks, with Caleb playing quite a bit in the sandbox again and also playing with the kids' toys.
My mom came around 11:00 to get us and we went to a couple of consignment stores and then headed back to our place. I tried to get him to take a nap (actually, I knew he wouldn't nap, so I just called it a rest), but he wouldn't even rest. He kept getting up and banging on the door, so I finally had to get him out. At least I know at home that I can call it a rest time and he will actually rest because there isn't anything for him to get into in his crib.
In the afternoon, my parents and Caleb and I went into the hot tub for awhile. I know that I am not supposed to be in a hot tub while I am pregnant, but it was honestly not a very hot hot tub. It felt more like a bathtub, so I didn't think it was bad to be in it. However, I think we might have stayed in too long because after we got out, I felt lightheaded and a little nauseous. We found out Rad had been throwing up all day, so I was hoping that I was getting what he had. But, after a little while I felt better, so I am pretty sure it was just the hot tub. Then we went over to my grandparents' room to visit and to say goodbye to them since we would be leaving in the morning. Then my mom and dad left to go to the airport and I put Caleb to bed. I went to bed pretty early too, just in case I was coming down with something.
Caleb loved going in the elevator and pushing the buttons
We got up and left for the airport Tuesday morning. We had no trouble with our flight and we landed around 1:00. Caleb seemed tired on the plane, so I was hopeful that he would go to sleep in the car. Turns out he fell asleep before we even left the airport. I went to get the car while my mom waited in the airport with the luggage and when we pulled up to pick up my mom, Caleb fell asleep while we were loading the suitcases. He slept almost the whole way home too, so that was good.
We were happy to be home and Daddy was happy to see us when he got home from work. I was able to get all my unpacking done that day, although that mostly meant that everything just went into the dirty clothes, so I had a ton of laundry to do.
Wednesday I worked and Caleb went to Grammy's. Poor Grammy who had been with him all week and didn't have a chance to recover before having to spend the whole day with him again! They didn't do too much most of the day, but Caleb did take a nap which was great, and in the late afternoon they went on some errands and Grammy rewarded Caleb with a munchkin from Dunkin' Donuts.
On Thursday, we went and got some groceries and did lots of laundry. We also had a playdate at our house but only one of our friends was able to come. It was still fun, because we had missed being with our friends while we were away. Caleb took a regular 2 hour nap on Thursday, so I was happy that he had taken a nap 2 days in a row. At least there is still some hope, even if he doesn't take one every day.
Yesterday I worked again and Caleb was with Grammy in the morning and the girls in the afternoon. And he took no nap. Oh well.
One thing I didn't mention that came about while we were on our trip is that Caleb developed a stuttering problem. It has seemed to get a little better now that we are home. It was pretty bad for a couple of days in Florida. It was making me pretty sad to listen to him. He particularly has a hard time at the beginning of sentences and especially with hard consonants like "C", which means he has a hard time saying his own name. It was really sad. One night in Florida when I was putting him to bed, he was trying to tell me something and he was having a really hard time getting it out and he actually started to cry a little bit, and that just broke my heart, so of course I cried too. It hasn't been that bad again, which I am happy about. I think his brain is just moving so quickly that his mouth can't keep up with it. I am trying to be patient with him and not make a big deal about it, and I do think it has improved since we have gotten home, but it is definitely not gone. Oh well. It is just something a lot of kids go through and we will get through it too!
Well, I guess that's about it. Here are a few more pictures that I have left.
