Levi's Birthday & Halloween Events

I am trying to post more frequently. Since I last posted, we celebrated Levi's 1st birthday! I can't believe it has already been a year since he was born. I was in charge of making the dessert, so I made cupcakes since Caleb is very into the fact that birthdays need to have cake! Caleb helped me make the cupcakes that morning and he had fun doing it.

We had a nice supper at Rad & Jen's house and then Levi was able to dig into his smash cake. He seemed to enjoy playing with it, but had no interest in eating it.

Then we had our cupcakes and opened presents.

He was so excited to eat it and then didn't even eat half of it - no complaints here!

Impossible to get a good picture of all of them - good thing there aren't more of them!

Last weekend we went up to Vermont to Steve's parents' house for the annual cider and donuts party. We didn't leave until Sabbath morning so we didn't get into any traffic. We had a good trip up and could almost have made it the whole way without stopping but Kaitlyn started fussing about half an hour before we got there, so we stopped and fed her because we were going to be the first ones there anyway.

We had a nice afternoon visiting and we also took a walk across the street to a park. When the party actually started, I had to go feed Kaitlyn and get her ready for bed shortly after but then I was able to enjoy the cider and donuts after I put her to bed. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the weekend but it was fun! The next morning I tried to work for a few hours but it was pretty hard because Steve was helping his dad clean up. Caleb was cooking with Grandma but I was still in charge of Kaitlyn. I did do a few hours, so it was better than nothing. We left for home a little after 3:00 and even with one stop we were home by about 6:30, which was great.

On Monday morning we went to Miss Lori's class and she had the kids dress up in costumes, so that was fun. I got a Mickey Mouse costume for Caleb and a pumpkin costume for Kaitlyn.

They made "spiders" out of chocolate munchkins and pretzel sticks

Monday was my dad's birthday, so we went to visit my parents after Miss Lori's because I wanted them to see the kids in costume. This is the best picture I could get of them both, which is not good at all.

Monday is also when my mom told me about how bad her knee had gotten and that she almost went to the ER on Sunday night. Her pain level was so bad that she ended up not babysitting my kids this week. Steve stayed home on Tuesday and I stayed home on Thursday. Going forward, we are not sure what is going to happen because my mom found out she has a tear in her miniscus. She is going to the orthopedist on Monday so we will know better after that what we are up against. Steve's mom is going to come next week to babysit, but after that we will see!

So Tuesday Steve stayed home with the kids and they had a good day. I don't think they had a chance to do too much but it was still nice for Daddy to be home.

On Wednesday, we had a play date at Joanna's house (she is now working at my dad's office) with some of our other friends. We had a very fun time. It is always nice to be with friends.

On Thursday, I was home with the kids and we had a playdate at our house with Beth and Charlie and Ella because they weren't able to go to Joanna's on Wednesday. I didn't take any pictures, but Caleb and Charlie had fun playing together (except they didn't want to clean up). Kaitlyn slept most of the time, which was nice, and Ella (who is only 6 weeks old) was pretty good.

Yesterday we had a very busy day. We went to the Harwich library for a Halloween storytime and then walked across the street to the Town Hall to trick or treat there. It was very cute and the kids had a fun time.

This is Joanna and both of us had our "pumpkins" - her son Jonathan is 9 months old

After that, Joanna told us she was going to see the pumpkin people in a park in Chatham. Local businesses make pumpkins to look like characters from books, movies, etc. I decided to go because I thought it would be fun but it ended up taking a lot longer to get there than I thought. It was cool to see the pumpkin people but I kept telling Caleb to stop touching them and he actually ended up knocking one over and it rolled all the way down a hill and I had to go chase it. I was not happy after that and luckily we were done, so I told him we had to leave because he had disobeyed so much.

It was almost 40 minutes to get home from there and I knew Kaitlyn would be ready to eat but I chanced it. She started crying pretty hard about 5-10 minutes into our trip but stopped after I started singing. I ended up singing the rest of the way home and she was pretty good, thankfully. So, we got home and I got both of the kids to bed. When they woke up, we went to visit my mother for a few minutes to try to cheer her up after she had gotten the bad news about her knee.

Then we headed over to Osterville for a Halloween parade. We met Beth, Charlie, and Ella there. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a fun time. The kids were in costume and walked up Main Street and some of the shop owners were outside with candy for the kids. It was a little awkward, though, because some of them were just waving to the kids but didn't have any candy or anything. I know if I was a business owner I would want to be making a good impression and I would have candy! I wasn't able to get any pictures, but we had a great time. We got home around 5:00 and I was happy to be home because we had been so busy. I am glad though that I am still able to get out and about even with 2 kids. I try not to let too much slow me down because I like to do fun things with our friends and to keep Caleb entertained.

Today we had a bunch of people over to our house after church for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? It is a lot of work to host but that is the only way we can participate since we have to get our kids to nap. So, we had a nice time with everyone and Kaitlyn napped almost 3 hours so I was able to enjoy our company and visit with them.

In the last couple of days, Kaitlyn has been very much wanting to stand up on people's laps. Even if you try to make her sit down, she pushes up and tries to stand up.

Cute picture of Kaitlyn and Grammy in church

After sundown we took Caleb (and Kaitlyn in the baby Bjorn) trick or treating to a few houses in our neighborhood. I don't really like Halloween but I do like the dressing up and trick or treating. Caleb enjoyed it and kept saying "Which neighbor's house should we go to next?" Kaitlyn slept through the whole thing but was cute in her pumpkin costume.

Well, that's it for this week except for a few more pictures!
