Whitsetts Visit, First Haircut, "So Big!", Scavenger Hunt, & Family Trip to Newport

A lot has happened since the last time I posted! It started with the Whitsett family arriving late last Thursday night from Thailand. We were so excited to see them because it had been a year and a half since the last time! Their plane arrived in Boston around 7:30 and they made it to our house around 10:00, which wasn't too bad. Of course they didn't get to see Caleb until the next morning, but we enjoyed visiting for a little while before we went to bed.

Ryan had some company while he slept

Steve and I both took Friday off (I had worked Monday instead so I could be off) so we could spend the day with Amy and Greg and the kids. Even though they had gone to bed late, they were up pretty early, which works with our schedule since Caleb is an early riser. We had a nice breakfast and then we gave them some early Christmas gifts because they were some warm clothes which they would need during their visit here.

After breakfast, it was time for Caleb's nap and after he fell asleep, Amy and I went out shopping because they needed to get some clothes for the kids. After Caleb woke up, the rest of them joined us shopping and then we went to Olive Garden for lunch. We had a very nice time.

After lunch at Olive Garden

After lunch, I took Caleb home for a nap because his morning nap had been short and Steve and the rest of them stayed out shopping until sundown. Caleb took an hour and a half nap, which was great, and I ended up working during his nap, so that was some extra time for me.

After everyone got back from shopping, we just hung around for awhile and ate supper. No one was too hungry because of the big lunch at Olive Garden, so we had a lot of leftovers.

After supper, Caleb needed a bath and then I went into his room to nurse him before bed. When I came out around 7:30, the whole house was dark and everyone had gone to bed (Steve was still awake upstairs) because they were exhausted and still jet-lagged. It was good for us to go to bed early too because of going to be so late the night before.

Sabbath morning everyone was up pretty early again, which is better than them trying to sleep in while Caleb is awake! We all had breakfast together and the kids enjoyed playing with some little travel games we had gotten them. One thing that is so cute that Caleb has been doing lately is something that my mom taught him to do. He puts his hands up in the air like he is signaling a touchdown and she would say "So Big!" Well, now he just does that at random times on his own and he is so proud of himself.

So Big!!

Checking out the snow with Uncle Greg

Caleb loved this game because it lit up, so I ended up buying one for his stocking just because of the lights!!

After breakfast, everyone else went to Sabbath School, but I stayed home with Caleb for him to take a nap. He ended up sleeping almost 2 hours, which was great! But, that meant we were late to church again for the second week in a row. We stayed in the church for awhile but then spent the rest of the time in the mother's room playing.

All ready for church!

After church we went to my parents' house for lunch and we invited a few people from church that know Amy and Greg over so they could visit. We took some nice pictures after church in front of the Christmas tree.

They matched!

Uncle Steve is pretty popular with these two

Since Caleb had taken such a long morning nap, I wasn't sure he would even go to sleep in the afternoon, but I tried anyway and he did go to sleep for about 30 minutes, which was fine. The rest of the afternoon we just visited at my parents' house and it was fun. After sundown, it was time to go to our annual church Christmas social. My mom had planned a scavenger hunt on Main Street in Osterville and we thought the kids would enjoy it. There were several teams that participated and we were all on one team. It was snowing and cold, so it was kind of an adventure and the kids got pretty cold, but I think they still had a good time. I know Amy and Greg had fun, so that was good. And we ended up winning the scavenger hunt, so that made it worthwhile too!

After the scavenger hunt, we had pizza at the church and then I hurried home with Caleb to get him ready for bed. There was going to be a Yankee swap at the church, but we didn't stay for that. We were thinking maybe we would watch a movie with the kids after I was done feeding Caleb, but everyone was too tired again, so they went to bed around 8:00 and so Steve and I ended up watching TV upstairs for awhile and I actually did some work.

On Sunday morning, Caleb was awake a little earlier than the last couple of mornings, but so was everyone else. We had a nice breakfast and then the kids played for awhile with their games.

When Caleb went down for his nap, I took a quick trip to Toys R Us to look for something and I came back and Caleb was still napping. We watched a little video of the Christmas program at the kids' school in Thailand and it was really nice. After Caleb's nap, he got his first haircut from Aunt Amy. It had been getting out of control, but we weren't sure what we wanted to do about it and I remembered that Amy cuts her boys' hair, so we asked her if she wanted to do it and she was honored to be able to give him his first haircut. We just sat him on the counter and Tyler held him so Steve could video and I could take pictures. He did very well and it came out really good! He looks like such a big boy now, even though it doesn't look that different!

After the haircut, it was time for a quick lunch and then they left to drive up to Vermont. It was a very nice visit with them and we were so glad they were able to come spend the weekend with us. We are looking forward to spending another weekend with them in Vermont after Christmas.

Monday was Rad's birthday, but he was busy studying for finals on Sunday, so we didn't do too much to celebrate, but we did open some presents after the Patriots game.

On Monday Caleb and I did a little bit of Christmas shopping at the mall and Old Navy. We also went to Trader Joe's for some groceries for the week. I think that's about all that happened that day.

On Tuesday we had our last playgroup meeting before taking a break for a couple of weeks. One of the moms in our group had a good idea to make a wreath of all the babies' handprints and give it to our leader, so we did that. It turned out really well and she was very happy with it.

Here are a couple other pictures from playgroup.

He loves to make this face - what's funny is this was a Barbie movie!

Right after playgroup, Caleb and I left to drive down to Newport, RI to meet my parents there. They were spending the week there and a large group of our family was arriving on Wednesday to spend a couple of days. I had to work on Wednesday, so Caleb and I drove down Tuesday afternoon and spent the night and then my mom babysat Caleb in Newport on Wednesday. We got to Newport around 2:00 on Tuesday and shortly after we got there, Caleb took a nap and I did a little work. The Wi-Fi doesn't really work there and I knew that, so I had brought an Excel file that I could work on offline. After Caleb's nap, we just hung around for a little while and then we went to the grocery store and then out to supper. We had a great supper!

He was very well behaved in the restaurant

After I put Caleb to bed, I worked for about an hour and a half and then I went to bed because I knew I would have to get up early for work. The next morning Caleb woke up around 5:30, which was fine because I had to nurse him before leaving at 6:30. I left him with Grammy and Grampy and headed off to work.

Caleb had a good day with Grammy but it wasn't a good sleeping day for him. It is hard to nap in a different environment. He slept about 30 minutes in the morning, but discovered that he could reach the camera that was attached to his pack and play so he became obsessed with that and kept crawling over to it and grabbing it. Then Grammy took him for a walk in the stroller and she thinks maybe he took a catnap and then he wouldn't go to sleep in the afternoon for a nap. Oh well.

Can't wait to get into the pool!

The little stinker after not taking a nap!

When Steve and I got there around 5:00, Steve took him swimming in the pool with the cousins and he had a great time! He loves the water so much, which is great!!

After the pool, we gave Caleb a bath to wash off the chlorine and then I put him to bed early because of the poor napping in the afternoon.

I started nursing Caleb around 6:20 and he was asleep practically instantly. I put him down at 7:00 and by that time, there were about 35 people in the kitchen for supper and all the kids were yelling and screaming and Caleb slept through it all and never made a peep the whole time. Thank goodness!

I didn't take too many pictures on Wednesday, but here is Westin sweeping the floor

Caleb slept until about 6:00 on Thursday morning, which is great since he had basically been asleep since about 6:30 the night before. Steve had to get up and go to work, so here is a picture before he left.

Caleb played for awhile in his room and then we had breakfast and I ended up putting him down for an early nap because I thought we were going to get together with everyone else and I wanted to make sure he had a nap. Since he slept so long the night before and with other circumstances, he only slept 30 minutes, but at least it was something.

With so many people and so many different schedules, it was hard to get everyone together. Finally around 10:30 we went over to the Braces' room. We decided to go take a walk into town for awhile, so we headed back to our room to get bundled up (although it was a very nice day). Calleigh, Aubree, Camden and Acadia walked back with my mom and Caleb and I. Along the way, we passed a bench and my mom wanted to take a picture of the kids. I put Caleb on Calleigh's lap and we got a good picture, but then after the picture was done, Calleigh just stood up and forgot Caleb was on her lap and he fell face-down onto the concrete. I just watched and couldn't do anything about it. He cried pretty hard but had no marks and was fine. Later on, Corey asked Calleigh what happened and she said that she forgot he couldn't walk. I am just glad he was ok.

At least it was a cute picture

So we walked around for quite awhile and then met everyone at Panera Bread for lunch. That was the first time we had seen the Copseys all day, which is pretty sad, but their kids were napping while we were walking around the town.

After eating lunch, I took Caleb back to try to get him to take a short nap before we were going to meet everyone at the pool. I tried nursing him to sleep and it didn't work, so I just gave up and we went to the pool anyway because I didn't want to miss it. He was a little cranky before we went, but was great at the pool because he loves it so much! He had a great time, but then he pooped and it leaked a little bit out of his swim diaper, so we had to make a hasty exit. He needed a nap anyway, so it worked out fine.

After swimming, I put Caleb down for a nap and he slept for about an hour and 10 minutes and then I actually woke him up around 5:00 because I wanted to make sure he would sleep that night. Here is a beautiful sunset picture that I saw while Caleb was sleeping.

After Caleb got up, we went over to visit the Copsey clan, but then we all came back over for supper.

Finley was hugging him

We had about 35-40 people there for supper and it was absolutely crazy. 13 of the 15 kids were there and there was a family friend Hannah also there, so there were 14 kids. Amazingly, we were actually able to get a pretty decent picture of all the kids (minus Tyson, who was having a meltdown and wouldn't get in the picture). Caleb loves to pull his socks off, so he has one off, one on in the picture.

Here are a few other pictures from the evening.

Caleb went to bed at about 8:00 and a lot of the kids were gone by the time I came out but some of them were still there and we visited for awhile. Steve and I went to bed around 9:30 because we had to get up early. Little did I know how early. Caleb was wide awake at 4:15, which never happens! I was watching him on the monitor and he was going for the camera again!! I knew I would have to be nursing him pretty early to go to work, so I just decided to nurse him around 4:30 and then put him back to bed so he would sleep longer for my mom. It worked out ok and he ended up sleeping until 7:30, but I was pretty tired from being up at 4:15! Oh well.

Steve and I went to work and my mom and dad brought Caleb home with them and then he spent the afternoon with Rad and Jen. They said that he was really making them laugh yesterday and they had a good time with him. After we picked him up, we just came home and got unpacked and had a relaxing evening and went to bed early. And now we are all caught up on the week's events! Merry Christmas everyone!!
