Sick Again, Another Great Church Walk, & Blowing Kisses

Well, Caleb is sick again, which is very disappointing. I feel like he has been sick more than he should have been in his short life. Especially since I am still nursing him! I thought that was supposed to give him a better immune system. I guess he inherited Steve's immune system, which is not as hearty as mine. I first noticed he wasn't feeling well on Sunday, I think. Sunday night he threw up all over the place while I was nursing him before bed. Of course, Steve was at Home Depot getting paint, so I had to clean it all up by myself, while Caleb ran around the house in just a diaper (because he had thrown up on his pajamas). He seemed to feel fine after he threw up. I did nurse him for a few more minutes after I got everything cleaned up and he kept that down, but unfortunately, it wasn't an isolated incident. He has had a cough all week and whenever he has a cough, his gag reflex kicks in and he often throws up his food after starting to cough. So, that has been happening all week off and on, and he really hasn't had much of an appetite. I also know that he is working on several teeth, at least one of which is a molar, so I think that is bothering him too. So, it hasn't been the best week for us! We had to skip all of our playgroups this week because I didn't want to expose Caleb's germs to any of the other kids, so that made for a longer week since we didn't do as much socializing. Anyway, on to the rest of the events of the week.

Grammy trying to take his temperature but it didn't work too well

Last Friday my mom had Caleb for the day and the girls were there in the afternoon. It was a nice day so they got to play outside and Caleb picked my mom a flower, which is cute.

Caleb makes this face all the time when he is doing something intensely. I think he was trying to open the container.

When we got home and Dede and the girls were there with Caleb, Steve noticed that Dede had a tire that was very low, so he put air in it for her. Caleb was fascinated with what he was doing (naturally) and was right in there with Steve, which was adorable.

Sabbath morning we had a mini photo shoot because I realized that I don't have many recent pictures of me with Caleb.

Then we went to Sabbath School and Caleb had fun playing with all the props and the other kids. We usually have 2-3 teachers in our class but this week there was only 1, so I had to help a lot with the singing and the props.

Caleb had been playing with the dogs before we left for church so Steve had to brush him off with the lint brush

We stayed for the first half of church and then I brought Caleb home for his nap. It was a beautiful day, so I sat outside in my lounge chair for a little while while he napped. It was potluck at church, but we didn't go because of Caleb's nap. Steve did stay, though, and brought me home a little bit of food.

After Caleb woke up, we played outside for a little bit before headed off to another beautiful church walk.

The walk was in Orleans which is about 35-40 minutes away. It was someplace that we had never been before and it was very nice. We had a huge group this week because it was such a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun. Since the car ride was so long, I just fed Caleb supper in the car on the way home and then got him ready for bed when we got back. That worked out really well and we were able to stay on our schedule.

On Sunday, Caleb woke up at 5:00, which he hasn't done in months. I think that was the beginning of him not feeling good, so it makes sense in hindsight. I worked all morning and really until Caleb got up from his nap around 2:00. It is always great to get a good chunk of time accumulated on Sunday so I don't have to worry as much the rest of the week. I don't really remember what else happened on Sunday. I guess we went grocery shopping and then I made a pot of soup for supper the following night. We took a walk with the dogs in the evening right before getting Caleb ready for bed.

The last thing he ate before throwing up

Monday I worked because my mom was going to be at a class on Thursday and Friday and so she couldn't babysit Caleb on Friday. Caleb was acting pretty good with my mom, but didn't have too much of an appetite. I was worried that he would throw up again, but he did fine. I think they laid low in the morning, but in the afternoon, my mom took Caleb to the playground and for a walk on Craigville Beach, which he seemed to enjoy.

Tuesday morning was the next time Caleb threw up. He ate a few bites of french toast and then gagged and threw up. So I gave him some applesauce and oatmeal but made it very thin so he wouldn't gag, but he still did and threw up again. This pretty much happened every time I fed him on Tuesday, except when he had Teddy grahams and Goldfish. And when he had his milk and his nursing. So, at least he was getting some calories even if it wasn't much. So we laid pretty low on Tuesday. We did go out for a walk around the neighborhood and spent some time outside, but I don't think we went anywhere in the car all day.

On Wednesday I worked again as usual. I think Caleb had a slight fever in the morning but I gave him Motrin before going to work and it lasts 8 hours. By the end of the day, he was very warm, though, and had deteriorated. He was very clingy and tired when I got home, and we made it a very early bedtime. I think he was in bed at 6:30 instead of 7:00.

Grampy was taking care of him first thing on Wednesday because Grammy needed to get some work done

My mom texted me before Caleb's nap to see if I had brought his pacifier, which I always do. I told her that I know I had it in the morning, but she had looked everywhere and couldn't find it. She finally found an old pacifier that I had given her a long time ago as an extra. When I put my coat on to go for a walk at lunch, I found the pacifier in my pocket. Thank goodness she had a backup. I will make sure she has more than one from now on!

Thursday morning Caleb still had a fever, so we couldn't go to our play group. I don't think I would have gone anyway because of his cough and runny nose. So, we spent the morning hanging around the house. I finished making the clothing size switch, so it was good to get that out of the way. We also went for a 2 mile walk around the neighborhood and spent some time out in the backyard.

He has really been enjoying his blocks the past couple of days

He wanted to carry that bucket around and it was practically as big as him, so it was pretty funny

We were going to meet Steve at Home Depot after work to look at carpet for the playroom, so we went to Kohls and Trader Joe's before meeting Steve. We picked out some carpet that we like and then Caleb and I came home to get Caleb to bed while Steve stayed at Home Depot a little while longer.

Trying on hats at Kohls - we didn't get them, it was just for fun

Today was not a very great weather day. Caleb was definitely feeling some better but still didn't want to eat too much. He wasn't coughing as much, but his nose is still very runny. We went out shopping at BJ's and Toys R Us this morning. I had some coupons at BJ's that were expiring in a couple of days so I wanted to make sure I used them. I also had a coupon for $10 off diapers at Babies R Us, and I am a sucker for that deal, because that is the best one I can find. This afternoon I reorganized Caleb's books in his bookshelves and put some of his baby toys in the attic. Of course as I was putting them away, he was wanting to play with them! Tonight we had Jen over for supper. Rad was at the same class my parents were at so he wasn't home yet. We had a nice visit.

One thing I forgot to mention about this week is that Caleb is blowing kisses now. I had been trying to get him to do it and he would put his hand up to his mouth but then wouldn't do anything after that. Now he is doing it properly and making the smacking sound, which is so cute. He is doing it to people at the grocery store, etc.

Well, I think I am headed to bed early. And tomorrow morning for the first time in 18 months, I am going to sleep in and Steve is going to get up and feed Caleb, now that he is no longer nursing in the mornings! I am sure that it will be hard to go back to sleep after waking up when Caleb does, but at least I can rest and relax in bed! Happy Sabbath!

17 Months, Dropped Morning Nursing, Animal Sounds & New Toys

Well, Caleb is now officially 17 months old! I didn't really have a plan for when I wanted to be done nursing him. I have just been letting him wean himself. But this week I decided that it was time to drop one more of the nursing sessions so that we were only down to once a day (I had been nursing him first thing in the morning and right before bed). So, I decided to drop the morning nursing and just give him a sippy cup of milk instead. I started that on Monday morning and so far it has gone great! I had been nursing him and then doing breakfast about an hour later, but now I am giving him the sippy of milk and then going right into breakfast. It is always a little bit of a challenge to switch up the schedule, but we are both doing well with it! I figure that I will wait a few more weeks and then drop the nighttime nursing as well, so then we will be completely done. I think I will be sad when I am done, but it will also feel a little freeing as well!

So last Thursday we did some consignment shopping and I bought Caleb a little trampoline, which is one of the things I have been wanting to find for him since he loved his Johnny jump-up so much. The trampoline cost $40.00 at the consignment store, which I thought was a little much, but I had a coupon for $10.00 off, so that made it a little better. It is one that costs about $100.00 new and it was in really good condition, so I splurged. Caleb is enjoying it so far. I have it up against the couch and he also uses it to climb up on the couch as well. So it serves a dual purpose for him.

I also bought a kitchen for him off of someone on Facebook. I probably should have waited until the playroom was actually done, but I saw a kitchen that I really liked that costs $150 at Toys R Us and the person was selling it in good condition for $50 and it came with a bunch of play food as well. So, we bought it and it is now in our kitchen until the playroom is done. Caleb is really enjoying that as well.

This week has been a pretty lousy weather week, so we haven't played outside at all, which is too bad because we had been getting used to the nice weather. Last Friday my mom had Caleb all day without the girls to help, but she didn't have him at all on Wednesday, so it was ok.

At the office for a will signing

On Sabbath we went to Sabbath School and Caleb had a good time as always.

We went to my parents' house for lunch, so I brought Caleb back there for his nap when we left church. Rad and Jen were both sick with a bad cold, so they didn't go to church, but Rad came for lunch. In the afternoon we went for a walk to see a place with a lot of daffodils, even though it was a cool, somewhat rainy day. There was a break in the rain while we were there. I forgot to get the group picture my mom took off of Facebook to put in this blog, but oh well. After the daffodils, we walked a little while on the bike path in Falmouth and then we left to bring Caleb home while everyone else continued walking for awhile.

In the parking lot after our walk

On Sunday I worked for several hours and Caleb and Steve went out to Home Depot and Harbor Freight and the dump. After I was done working and Caleb was up from his nap, we went and did our grocery shopping. I usually do it on Monday and I think I will go back to that, because the stores were much more crowded on Sunday. I don't really remember what else we did on Sunday, so it must not have been that exciting!

On Monday we did some shopping at Old Navy and Kohls. I had some Old Navy Super Cash that I needed to use and at Kohls I bought some new bath rugs and some new sneakers for myself. I ended up using my Super Cash to buy Caleb a new bathing suit and rash guard for this summer.

Tuesday we went back to our group at the library after last week's break because of school vacation. It was nice to see our friends again after a couple of weeks. I never get any pictures at our Tuesday group because I am always making sure Caleb doesn't run into or fall on top of the other babies. We have definitely outgrown this group but will stick it out for the rest of this session. I don't think we did too much in the afternoon. Probably just played in Caleb's room. I have been trying to teach Caleb animal sounds and so has my mom. He will repeat them but I thought the only one he knew for sure was doggie. But on Tuesday I discovered he knows kitty (he says "A-mow") and sheep (he even does the vibrating sound). It is so cute especially when he does the sheep. So, I am proud of him!

Here are some pictures from Caleb's bath on Tuesday night. He sure does love to be in the bathtub!

GQ tub shoot?

Yesterday I worked and Caleb had a good day with Grammy. He is such a busy boy these days, but Grammy is having a lot of fun with him.

We had Rad and Jen over for supper last night. I know Jen still hasn't been feeling well so I wanted to do something nice and it seems like we never see them anymore. So, we had a nice supper of chicken noodle soup and homemade bread (I have rediscovered my bread maker this week and I am excited about it).

Today was torrentially raining for part of the day. We went to our play group this morning and had a fun time although it was too bad we couldn't go outside.

Well, the weather is supposed to get better tomorrow so hopefully this next week will be a more exciting week and I will have better pictures! Have a great week!
