Mother's Day, Fire Truck, Beach Walk, Long Naps & Daddy's Away

Last Sabbath morning I was going to have my first day of sleeping in. Well, that technically did happen, however, Caleb didn't wake up until 8:00, which he absolutely never does, so Steve got to sleep in as well. Not that I don't want Steve to sleep in, but I kind of wanted him to have to get up at 6:00 with Caleb, like I do! After I got up on Sabbath morning, Steve presented me with my Mother's Day present a day early. It was the second year in a row of him making me a plate of homemade chocolate-covered strawberries. They were amazing and delicious! And yes, they were all gone by about Monday or Tuesday, but I did share some of them!

We didn't go to Sabbath School because Caleb still had a cough and runny nose and we didn't want to infect the other kids. So, we just went to church and didn't stay very long because we were going to leave to go up to see Steve's family at an arboretum where they have beautiful lilacs.

38 weeks pregnant and still going strong!

We decided at the last minute to go visit a friend of ours who has a baby in Mass. General right now in intensive care. Since Caleb slept until 8:00 we knew he wouldn't be ready for a nap at 12:00, so we just went home and ate lunch after church and then left around 1:00. Caleb took a cat nap in the car, but that was all right since he had slept 13 hours the night before. We got to the hospital and of course Caleb can't go into intensive care, so we took turns going in and visiting. Caleb had fun walking around the hospital while we waited.

After we were done, we headed to the arboretum in Jamaica Plain. Turns out we only got there about 20 minutes after Steve's family did, so it is a good thing we went to the hospital; otherwise we would have been waiting for them for quite awhile. We had a nice walk at the arboretum and it was good to see everyone, but we couldn't stay terribly long because it was already late by the time we got there. We left around 6:00 and I fed Caleb supper in the car so he could go right to bed when we got home.

Sunday morning Caleb slept in until 7:00, which was another day that Steve was on duty, so that was crazy! I worked for about 3 1/2 hours and then we left to go to brunch with my parents and Rad and Jen. I thought I had made reservations at a place we had been to before, but I had done the wrong one, but it was still fine. We had a good time and it was an absolutely gorgeous day.

This was my mother's hat that she had worn as a joke, but she actually owns the hat, so I'm not sure what the joke is...

After brunch, I went to get my hair cut and then I met my mom and Jen to go to the movie Mom's Night Out. That is the first movie I have been to since Caleb was born and who knows how long before then. It was a pretty good movie. It got a little ridiculous in the middle, but by the end we were all crying, so it was nice. Then I went home and spent the rest of the day with Caleb while Steve worked on the playroom. The playroom is getting really close to being done. It is all painted now and Steve just has to finish the ceiling and the carpet is going to be installed hopefully next week, so hopefully we will be moving in soon! I am so excited!

On Sunday while Steve was watching Caleb in the morning, I suggested they take Caleb's 4-wheeler outside because I had gotten a helmet for him to wear at a consignment store. He had a lot of fun going down the driveway and riding in the street.

Monday was another gorgeous day. We went to storytime at the Centerville Library, but first we went to the playground across the street.

Storytime was fun and we will definitely be going back. They have a really nice kids' section that Caleb will like especially once he gets a little older.

Caleb took a more than 2 hour nap on Monday, which was nice. That has actually been happening a lot this week, which is so nice. And the getting up late has been continuing as well. He is sleeping until at least 6:30 and that is going to bed at 7:00, so I can't complain there! After Caleb's nap, we went to Craigville Beach with my mom for a little walk because it was so beautiful.

Then we went to the grocery store and then met Steve at a carpet store to pick out the carpet for the playroom. Then we went to Uno's for supper since it was right near the carpet store.

On Tuesday we went to check out a new playgroup. It is just a group of kids in an open gym at the rec center. It costs $8 for 1 1/2 hours, but kids are free until 18 months, so I wanted to check it out while Caleb was free to see if we wanted to keep going once we have to pay. Caleb had fun, but I think it is geared a little more towards older kids, so I think he will have more fun once he is 2 or 3 so we probably won't go back to pay until then.

We were supposed to head directly from there to our library group, but we got in the car and Caleb was yawning like crazy and I felt tired too, so we skipped that group and just went home instead. Caleb took another almost 2 1/2 hour nap, so I got a lot of work done, which was great! I don't remember what we did on Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Steve was leaving to go to California for a few days for work, so he stayed home with Caleb in the morning because he didn't have to leave until about noon to go to the airport. So, that was nice for my mom that she had the morning off. Steve put Caleb down for his nap at home and then my mom came over. He slept for almost 3 hours and my mom finally had to go get him up. I don't know what is going on with him and the sleeping this week! Growth spurt maybe. So, my mom and Caleb went to the grand opening of Whole Foods in Hyannis after he got up. It was so packed that my mom didn't really buy anything, though.

So, those of you who know me well (which should be all of you reading this) know that I hate staying by myself at night, so Caleb and I headed over to my parents' house Wednesday night to stay for the next few nights while Steve was gone. We will spend the days at home, but I just have a real phobia of being alone all night. I was ready to conquer my fears after putting Caleb down to sleep the first night at their house. Usually at home I just put him in his crib and he goes right to sleep. No fussing or anything. At their house, as soon as I put him down, he started crying and crying and wouldn't go to sleep until 9:00. So, I was ready to stay by myself on Thursday night, but my mom wouldn't let me and told me to give it one more night.

Thursday after we got up, we went home for the day. We were home for a little while in the morning and then we went to our normal play group from 9:30-11:00. We left early, though, because we went to a story time at a library we don't usually go to, but they were having a special one with a fireman who was bringing his fire truck. It was pretty crowded, but we still had fun. He read a story about a fireman, then he brought in another fireman who demonstrated putting on all the gear, and then the kids got to go out and climb on the fire truck.

Then we rushed home for Caleb's nap and he slept over 2 hours again!! Then we went shopping to look for furniture to replace the couch we have upstairs that we will be moving to the playroom. I think we are going to get 2 recliners instead, but I need to bring Steve back with me to decide. After we went shopping, we came home and played outside for awhile and then had supper and a bath and went back to my parents' house for the night.

Caleb still cried when I put him to bed this time, but it only took him 30 minutes go to to sleep instead of 2 hours, so I guess that is progress. Yesterday I worked, so it was convenient that Caleb was already at my mom's house. I did have to go home and let the dogs out, so I just did that on my way to work.

Caleb had a good day with Grammy, but took a short nap for her instead of the 2+ hours he has been doing at home. In the afternoon he played with Josie and Rissa.

They styled his hair

After I got home, we went to my parents' house for supper with Rad and Jen. I left to feed Caleb and he was so tired he fell asleep while nursing, so that made putting him down a whole lot easier! Rad and Jen were still there when I was done, so I visited with them for awhile and my parents left to go to Bible study at the church. Rad and Jen were nice enough to volunteer to go let the dogs out for me so I didn't have to go back home. I went to bed at 9:00 and then unfortunately, Caleb woke up crying around 12:30 and then had a restless rest of the night, so it wasn't a great night's sleep. I think his teeth are bothering him, so I guess I will give him Tylenol tonight before bed and see if he does better. Unfortunately Steve is now having to stay an extra day so won't be home until Tuesday, so that really stinks. Oh well! Anyway, that's it! Have a happy Sabbath everyone!
